Background Information on Grayson Perry

Grayson Perry was born in chelmsford on 24th March 1960.

In his childhood Perry took an interest in drawing and building modal aeroplanes, he then decided to study art. He did a art foundation course, and also studied for a BA in fine arts, graduating in 1982.

He exhibited his first piece of pottery at the 'New Contemporaries' show in 1983

Perry started pottery lessons in 1983

Perry's work refers to several ceramic traditions, including Greek pottery and folk art. But in his work Perry reflects upon his upbringing as a boy, his stepfathers anger and the absence of proper guidance from a male conduct.

Perry has worked in printmaking, drawing, embroidery and other textile work, film and performance.
He has also written a graphic novel.
