- Modelling Knives are the most health and safety risk with clay, as they are very Sharpe so picking up new blades from a flat surface is a good way to cut your fingers: so keep blades on a magnetic strip.
- Don't cut clay on any wooden surface: cutting may release tiny silvers if wood. Although these should burn away during firing, they will leave holes in the clay and may cause cracks.
Kiln
- When looking into a hot kiln, you must protect your eyes as one minor incident could ruin your sight
- Also use heat resistant gloves as heat blisters are painful and could take a long time to heal.
- It is always a good idea to have a fire extinguisher nearby, just in case.
Wet Clay
- Be careful you don't inhale dust or powders from the clay.
- You would properly notice the drying of your hands while handling the clay, you can always wear gloves or simply just use skin cream after washed.
Personal Safety

- Hand could be covered in lead or silica, so foods and drinks should be left out of the environment you are working in with the clay.
